When you use Trimbox to unsubscribe from an email list, we send the list owner a formal request to remove you from the list. Each email list has its own preferred method of processing unsubscribe requests, so Trimbox will automatically detect the appropriate method and use it.

If the mailing list continues to send you emails after Trimbox has sent the unsubscribe request, there are 2 possible reasons:

1) The request needs 48 hours to process

According to email spam regulation laws, mailing list owners have 48 hours to process your request and remove you from their lists. So if you are still receiving emails from a list which you have unsubscribed from, make sure to wait 48 hours before getting alarmed. If you’re still receiving new emails after 48 hours, proceed to step 2.

2) The list owner is ignoring unsubscribe requests

Some nefarious (or just poorly run) mailing lists will straight up ignore unsubscribe requests and keep you on their email list no matter what. This is a violation of email spam regulation and can be reported as a punishable offense. If you think this is happening to you, feel free to send us an email with details to [email protected] and we’ll take a look. We’re happy to take further action against bad mailing lists who aren’t playing by the rules.

With that in mind, Trimbox has learned not to rely on mailing lists to play nice and respect your wishes when you ask to be unsubscribed. We’ve taken additional steps to protect your inbox, regardless of the mailing list. Read on below:

When you unsubscribe from a mailing list, Trimbox creates a smart filter to keep subsequent emails out of your inbox.

This is an extra step that we take to ensure that your inbox stays clean after you click unsubscribe.

To view all of the filters in your Gmail, including the ones created by Trimbox, just visit this page on your computer: https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/#settings/filters

There should be a block of filters created by Trimbox, which contains all of the email addresses that we are currently filtering out for you. An example of a Trimbox filter block is below:

These filters should be preventing unwanted emails to keep hitting your inbox after you unsubscribe. However, if that’s not the case and you’re still continuing to get emails, please shoot us an email at [email protected] with the details. We’ll be happy to look into it for you. 😀
